KP-34 rheology modifier is an organoclay (modified bentonite) designed specifically for use in solvent-based systems. Organoclay can be used widely in solvents ranging from low polarity to high polarity. This highly effective rheology modifier is designed for grease inks and paint coating lubrication. Organobentonite exhibits high gel-forming efficiency, disperses easily, and has stable viscosity. This rheological additive can be used effectively without a polar activating agent.

3, application

Rheological modifying clay KP-34 is used in the following applications:

Marine paint, industrial paint, heavy duty, anti-corrosion paint like bitumen coatings, polyester paints, alkyd paints.
Sealant
Ink
Tavot

Unsaturated polyester putty

4, using

KP-34 disperses under high shears and requires a polar activator for maximum efficiency. Good heat dispersal is essential. Addition levels are typically 0.2% to 2.0%. A polar activator (95% ethanol or 95% methanol) is required. A typical recommended addition level is 40% to 50% of KP-34 by weight. If the system contains xylene, the addition level is approximately 30% to 40% of KP-34 by weight.

Pre-gel is made as per below procedure.

The duty solvent that needs to be milled
Slowly add KP-34 (6-10% by weight of the total pregel) to thin out under agitation.
Mix on high speed for 5 minutes.
Add a polar activator.
Mix on high speed for 5 minutes.

7, storage

Rheological modifying clay KP-34 has a shelf life of 2 years and should be stored in a cool, dry, ventilated place.
