Organophilic Clay Application

Organophilic Clay Application:Our organo bentonite raw materials are divided into calcium-based bentonite and sodium-based bentonite. These are crushed, dispersed with a water-dispersing agent for purification, then modified with a modifier, and finally processed into modified bentonite clay.

Organophilic Clay Application

Currently, the main organic clay bentonite processing methods are divided into wet processing and dry processing. When used, they are further categorized into the pre-gel method and the direct dry powder addition method. First, for wet-processed organo clay bentonite, the bentonite is dispersed into a slurry, then purified and modified. After dehydration, drying, and grinding, the final product is obtained.

This method is more environmentally friendly. In contrast, dry-processed organic clay bentonite differs fundamentally from wet-processed bentonite in production . It primarily involves mixing, heating, extrusion, drying, grinding, and packaging to produce the final product.

Currently, organic bentonite clay has an extremely wide range of applications. Many manufacturing plants utilize the inherent thixotropic, dust-proof, flow-resistant, suspension, and rheological properties of organoclay bentonite in fields such as wastewater treatment, ink, latex paint, coatings, lubricants, and oilfield drilling.

Organophilic Clay Application: In paints and coatings, organobentonite clay can increase the viscosity of the liquid and alter its flow properties. When added to high-speed inks, it increases viscosity, improves printing quality, and accelerates drying speed. In ink systems, organiclay bentonite remains suspended in the organic liquid phase. Due to its excellent suspension properties in ink, it prevents sedimentation.

In petroleum drilling fluids, organic clay bentonite enhances the stability of the drilling mud, imparting excellent suspension, flow, and rheological properties. It aids in lubricating the drilling bit and significantly improves corrosion resistance.

In wastewater treatment, especially after oilfield drilling, when treating wastewater from the drilling site, the adsorption properties of organophilic clay bentonite can effectively treat and purify the wastewater, effectively adsorbing organic substances in the wastewater. We typically add organic bentonite to the organic wastewater in a specific ratio, stir it, let it settle for a period of time, then separate the solids from the liquids, and discharge it after confirming it meets emission standards.

Bentonite releases charged particles in water, acting as a dispersant to improve the suspension properties of water-based coatings. Adding an appropriate amount of bentonite to architectural coatings prevents settling and layering, ensuring uniform color and enhancing suspension stability, thereby extending storage life.

Adding organic bentonite to grease imparts high-temperature resistance to the entire formulation. Bentonite grease has no drop point, and its high-temperature resistance depends solely on the high-temperature performance of the surfactant, typically usable up to around 180°C.
