Organoclay for coatings

Our CP series organic bentonite serves as both a thickening rheology modifier and an anti-settling agent, demonstrating excellent performance in paints, coatings, inks, lubricants, organic solvent-based coatings, and water-based coating systems.

It is suitable for use in low-polarity paints and coatings, as well as medium- and high-polarity paints and coatings. Its primary functions include anti-settling, thickening, and enhancing the overall stability of the system, while preventing the separation of pigments and fillers.

Additionally, it exhibits excellent thixotropic properties: when left stationary, it thickens, but during application with high-speed mixing, its viscosity decreases, facilitating application. After application, it rapidly regains its viscosity, reducing sagging.

Organoclay for coatings

Whether in water-based or oil-based systems, it is necessary to select the appropriate type of organic bentonite Organoclay for coatings based on the formulation and then determine the appropriate addition amount through testing. If the addition amount is too low, it will fail to meet performance requirements. Conversely, if the addition amount is too high, it may result in abnormal viscosity, and in some cases, even have the opposite effect on performance. When storing the product, we recommend keeping it in a dry, moisture-proof location.

When using organic bentonite, we recommend pre-dispersing it with an oil-based solvent system, which involves performing some pre-gel treatment to achieve better dispersion. During this process, we suggest adding some activators, such as methanol or ethanol, and then incorporating the gel structure into the system to avoid uneven dispersion caused by direct addition, which could ultimately affect performance.

The primary purpose of using organic bentonite is to enhance thickening, suspension, and anti-settling properties, improve the rheological properties of aqueous systems, enhance storage stability, and reduce pigment settling and phase separation. Typically, organic bentonite is slowly added to water under high-speed stirring, followed by the addition of other additives to achieve compatibility of the entire formulation.

When using organic bentonite, we recommend using polar activators such as methanol, ethanol, or propylene carbonate. In some cases, adding a certain amount of water can also achieve the same activating effect.

Organoclay for coatings

Organoclay for coatings CP-10 is a kind of organo clay rheological additive. It is used in systems of non-polar to medium polarity aliphatic and other solvents (ketones, ester, ether esters, alcohols, aromatic).

Advantages

  • High efficiency
  • The gel is of light colour and high clarity
  • Easy to use, no need to pregel
  • Eliminate polar activator
  • Consistent development of rheology
  • Can be used to post correct

Application

CP-10 is used in the following applications:

  • Paints
  • Putty
  • Sealants &adhesives
  • Inks
  • Cosmetic
  • Nano-composite

Using

CP-10 can be added directly in powder without polar activator and making pre-gel. But better performance may achieve if polar activator is added and pre-gel procedure is affected.

The addition is recommended to be before grinding procedure to get the best effectiveness. Addition level is commonly 0.2%~1.0%.

Safety

All safety information is provided in the Material Safety Data Sheets for Zhejiang Camp-Shinning New Material Co., Ltd.

Package

Kraft bag or kraft complex interior with PE or customized

Storage

CP-10 has a shelf life of 2 years, and should be stored in ventilated cool and dry place.
