In epoxy paints, epoxy resins are divided into water-based and solvent-based epoxy resins. If it’s an epoxy emulsion, it’s a water-based system, so we recommend water-based bentonite.

If it’s a solvent-based epoxy resin, then we need to use oil-based organo-bentonite. In solvent-based epoxy paint systems, most organo-bentonite models are usable. The most cost-effective are CP 180 or CP 40. If higher quality is required, CP-MPZ and CP-APA are high-quality epoxy resin models.

Organobentonite has a wide range of applications, suitable for most solvent-based paints and coatings, as well as water-based oil-based coatings. It is also suitable for solvents of varying polarities, exhibiting excellent dispersibility and highly uniform particle size. Adding a polar activator significantly enhances its activation properties. Many of our formulations achieve easy dispersion without the need for a polar activator.

Organobentonite exhibits a remarkable gelling effect. It is transparent and relatively light in color. Its thixotropic properties allow it to significantly improve the thixotropic performance required by users in paints and coatings, and it also has a relatively low viscosity.

The most significant advantage is that organobentonite demonstrates excellent anti-settling and anti-sagging properties during long-term storage of paints and coatings. This is why many paint and coating manufacturers choose organobentonite as a thickening rheology modifier.

• Because of its excellent dispersing properties, organobentonite can be directly added to epoxy paints in many formulations, and its dispersion is even more complete under high shear conditions.
• We generally recommend an addition rate of 0.2% to 2% based on the total weight of the formulation. However, for some lubricating greases, we generally require a rate of 7% to 15%. Polar activators can sometimes be omitted, but adding a small amount can improve performance. High shear force is an important condition for the complete dispersion of organobentonite.
