Organoclay bentonite is produced by modifying natural bentonite (primarily composed of montmorillonite) through organiclay modification. Montmorillonite has a layered silicate structure, with interlayer exchangeable cations (such as Na⁺ and Ca²⁺). Through ion exchange technology, long-chain organic ammonium salts (such as octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride) are inserted into the structure, forming hydrophobic, oil-loving organic composites.

Organobentonite can treat crude oil, floating oil, dispersed oil, and emulsified oil in oilfield wastewater, as well as heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury.


As a high-quality adsorbent, organo clay bentonite can also treat organic compounds (phenols, benzene compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) and Na⁺, Cl⁻, etc., in high-salinity environments. When using organic clay bentonite adsorption columns to treat oily wastewater in oilfields, the removal rate of oil content reaches 98%.


The adsorption capacity for emulsified oil (particle size <10 μm) can reach 200–300 mg/g, significantly outperforming traditional adsorbent materials.


In terms of heavy metal removal, when treating wastewater containing Pb²⁺ (concentration 10 mg/L), the concentration is reduced to below 0.1 mg/L after adsorption. The adsorption capacity for Hg²⁺ can reach 150 mg/g, far exceeding that of unmodified bentonite (30 mg/g).

When treating wastewater containing benzene (COD 800 mg/L), the removal rate reaches 87.5%.

It is also highly environmentally friendly: a natural mineral-based material with no secondary pollution. Its adsorption capacity can be restored through acid washing or pyrolysis, enabling cost-effective recycling and regeneration. Therefore, the use of organic bentonite for wastewater treatment in oilfields is highly economical.

ORGANOCLAY CP-200

—-ORGANIC ADSORPTION MEDIA

Organoclay media CP-200 is a proprietary granular media that is highly effective in

adsorbing organic compounds, particularly non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs),

dissolved polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls

(PCBs).

APPLICATIONS:

Organoclay media CP-200 is specially formulated for use in the following applications:

Organophilic Filtration Media: as flow through medla for treating groundwater and

leachate.

Organoclay media Bulk Capping: provides subaqueous chemical isolation of

contaminated sediment NAPL seeps in waterways.

Permeable reactive barrier.

Solidification/Stabilization additive: improves hydraulic and leachability performance

of pozzolanic mixes by adsorbing NAPL and dissolved low solubility organics.
