Using
organoclay can be added directly in powder under high shear condition. Addition level is commonly 0.1%~0.8% of total formulation by weight. Polar activator is required to achieve better performance. The addition procedure is suggested as below.
1. Firstly add resin in solvent.
2. Add organoclay under slow agitation.
3. Disperse under high speed for 10-15 minutes.
4. Add polar activator.
5. Disperse under high speed for 10-12 minutes.
6. Add wetting agent and other additive.
7. Grinding and next procedure.
If to make pre-gel, better efficiency can be achieved. Addition level in pre-gel is 5%-7% of total pre-gel in weight. Pre-gel procedure is as below.
1. Add resin in solvent under mixing
2. Add organoclay under slow agitation.
3. Disperse under high speed for 5-10 minutes.
4. Add polar activator.
5. Disperse under high speed for 5-10 minutes.
Polar activator is suggested to be ethanol/water (95/5), methanol/water (95/5) or acetone. Dosage of polar activator is as below.
In aromatic solvent; 33%-60% of organoclay by weight
In mineral spirit, white oil, diesel oil; 45%-60% of organoclay by weight
