4, using

KP-40 organoclay thickeners disperse under high shears and require a polar activator for optimal efficiency. Good heat dispersion is essential. Addition levels are typically 0.2% to 2.0%. A polar activator (95% ethanol or 95% methanol) is required. A typical recommended addition level is 45% to 60% of KP-40 by weight. If the system contains xylene, the addition level is approximately 30% to 40% of KP-40 by weight.

Pre-gel is made as per below procedure.

1. The duty solvent that needs to be milled

2. Slowly add KP-40 (6-10% by weight of full pre-gel) to the mill while agitated.

3. Mix on high speed for 5 minutes.

4. Add a polar activator.

CP-138Y rheological additive is an oil-treated bentonite clay-based fluid. It can be used to thicken any oil-based drilling fluid and improve wellbore cleanup during drilling and workover operations. The rheology modifier can create gel-like oil muds for long-term suspension of weighting agents in packer fluids and casing strings.

4, using

A rheological additive can be added directly to the powder under high-shear conditions. The addition level is typically 0.1% to 1.0% of the total formulation weight. A polar activator is required to achieve better performance. The addition procedure is suggested below.

Add the resin to the solvent.
Add CP-138Y rheological additive while stirring slowly.
Mix at high speed for 10-15 minutes.
Add the polar activator.
Mix at high speed for 10-15 minutes.
Add the wetting agent and other additives.
Grind and proceed to the next step. 

Making a pre-gel can achieve better efficiency. The pre-gel should be added at a rate of 5-8% of the total pre-gel weight. The pre-gel procedure is as follows.

Add solvent or solvent mixture.
Add CP-138Y while stirring slowly.
Mix at high speed for 5-10 minutes.
Add polar activator.
Mix at high speed for 5-10 minutes. 

The polar activator is assumed to be ethanol/water (95/5), methanol/water (95/5), or acetone. The polar activator dosage is indicated below.

Rheology modifier: Rheological additive KP-180B, organo clay (modified montmorillonite), is designed specifically for use in solvent-based systems involving intermediate and low-polarity organic fluids. The organoclay ignition loss (1000℃) is 29%-32%. No need for a polar solvent when heating. The general addition level is 0.2%-2.0% of the total formulation. It depends on actual customer testing.

An improved version of KP-180. It is more precise and easier to disperse compared to the KP-180B modifier. KP-180 is a highly effective rheology modifier designed for grease inks and lubrication of paint coatings.

Viscosefier KP-150 Organophilic  clay is an  easy   -to-disperse, self-activating organoclay that demonstrates high efficiency in diesel, low-aromatic mineral oil, processed vegetable oil, and synthetic low-grade liquid formulations. Oragnophilic bentonite with good thixotropy and high gelling efficiency imparts organo-modification to clays.

The unique rheological structure of the KP-150 rheology modifier inhibits weighting materials and other solids, increasing their viscosity and gel strength compared to standard bentonite.  Organophilic clay  is highly effective in distillation and mineral oil-based invert fluids.

It can be added directly to the powder under high-shear conditions. The addition level is typically 0.1% to 1.0% (7-10% in grease) of the total formulation weight. In low- and medium-polarity solvents, a polar activator is necessary for optimal performance.

The procedure for adding is suggested below.

  • Add resin to the solvent.
  • Add CP-257 while stirring slowly.
  • Run at high speed for 10-15 minutes.
  • Add polar activator (95% ethanol or 95% acetone)
  • Run at high speed for 10-15 minutes.
  • Add wetting agent and other additives.
  • Grinding and the next procedure.

Making a pre-gel can achieve better efficiency. The recommended addition level to the pre-gel is 8-10% of the total pre-gel weight.

Pre-gel procedure as shown below.

  • Add solvent or solvent mixture.
  • Add CP-257 while stirring slowly.
  • Run at high speed for 5-10 minutes.

  • Run at high speed for 10-15 minutes.

The polar activator is assumed to be ethanol/water (95/5) or acetone/water (95/5). The dosage of the polar activator is about 10%-35% CP-257 by weight.

The suggested addition levels of our organoclay and polar activator are based on our laboratory testing. The exact dosage for a detailed formulation should be based on user testing.
