Organic bentonite Rheological additive is a kind of traditional organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay, which is applicable to aliphatic and aromatic system of low-medium polar solvent, such as mineral oil, paraffin oil, toluene, xylene, 200# solvent oil systems.
This grade is mainly recommended for use in oilfield drilling fluid systems, especially in formulations based on diesel oil, mineral oil, or synthetic oil. 2,Application:
Organoclay, as a kind of thickening, anti-sinkable, anti-sagging and thixotropy additive, is widely used in industrial paint, terrace paint, casting paint, atomic ash, adhesive, grease, etc.
3,Usage:
Organophilic clay can disperse at normal temperature. Pre-gel is suggested to make out of it and, added before grinding. High shearing equipments should be adopted so as to achieve the best dispersible effect.Modified bentonite can be dispersed completely with polar activator including: carbonic acid allethrin, methanol/water (95/5), ethanol/water (95/5)or acetone. The best dosage of polar activator can be changed according to different systems, usually 30-50% of the organoclay rheological additive.

Organic modifier dosage in the system is usually 0.5-2.0% (percentage in weight).

Organoclay for oil drilling bentonite CP-160 is an easy dispersing, self activating Organophilic Clay. Rheological additive exhibits high performance efficiency in diesel, low aromatic mineral oil, modified vegetable oil and synthetic base fluid formulation.

When it is used in Grease Lubricant, polar activator is needed. Polar activator is acetone/water(95/5). The dosage of activator is 20%-30% of the weight of CP-250A. And also high shear can promote the dispersing of CP-250A.
Adding procedure as follows:
If condition permits, heat the base oil to 60~70℃
Add CP-250A while stirring, addition level is 7%-10% of the total formulation. Stir 5~10minutes
Add polar activator, addition level is 2%-3% of the total formulation. Then add other additives, stir 25~30m
Use pump to help it pass colloid grinding and homogenizer.
Deair, filtrate, pack.
Note: With High-speed dispersant of grinding machine, and properly prolong the dispersing time, better gelatin performance can be reached.
The Lubricanting grease which uses organoclay as thickener will own high dropping point, thus can be used under high temperature and presents good impermeability and water resistance.

Organoclay use for lubricating grease
When we apply rheological additives to lubricating grease, they actively improve the thickening performance of the lubricant and its anti settling performance. Its suspension performance and thixotropy will also give you unexpected gains.
To actively increase the viscosity and lubricity of lubricating grease is the goal of all our grease factories，The rheological parameters can be improved by adding organoclay bentonite into the formula.
We must mention that to meet the rheological properties of the lubricant, it mainly depends on the amount of organic bentonite added, its shear time and shear speed.
The order in which organic bentonite is added to the grease formula is ignored by many grease supply factories, because the change of the order in which it is added will also lead to rheology and greatly affect the performance.
Application of polar activator in grease formulation.
Firstly, polar activator is an important additive in the lubricating oil formula. This component is a high–urity additive, which has been applied to organic bentonite with high gel efficiency, excellent thixotropy and good anti sedimentation performance. The lubricant additive can be used in many different types of grease formulas.

Although the influence of polar activator on the overall structure and rheology of lubricating grease is relatively small, it plays a positive role, because organophilic clay bentonite can affect a good fusion between the thickener in the lubricating grease and the base oil.
At the same time, the main influence of the lubricating system is in the initial stage of the production of lubricating grease. Once the production is completed, its influence is very, very small.
In the grease formula, the polar activator affects the rheological properties of the grease by changing the polarity of the base oil. Based on the high polar , the lubricant of the oil only shows a greater density than that based on the low polar . When shearing occurs, the polarity of the base oil is also important for the structural of the grease.
Organoclay use for lubricating grease
It must be noted that the use of polar activator will not affect the viscosity of the lubricating grease, but it will affect the rheological property of the lubricating oil, and can also improve the wear resistance of the lubricant.

In order to enhance the adhesion of lubricating grease to the metal surface, the addition of activator in the organic bentonite can improve its additive and its outstanding performance in surface adsorption.

UsingThixotropic agent can be added directly in powder under high shear condition. Addition level is commonly 0.1%~1.0% (7%-10% in greases) of total formulation by weight. In low and medium polarity solvents, polar activator is required to achieve better performance.The addition procedure is suggested as below.
Add resin in solvent.
Add CP-257 under slow agitation.
Disperse under high speed for 10-15 minutes.
Add polar activator (95% ethanol or 95% acetone)
Disperse under high speed for 10-15 minutes.
Add wetting agent and other additive.
Grinding and next procedure.
If to make pre-gel, better efficiency can be achieved. Addition level in pre-gel is 8%-10% of total pre-gel in weight.Pre-gel procedure is as below.

Disperse under high speed for 5-10 minutes.
Add polar activator.
