What Is Rheological Additive | CP Series Rheological Additive

What Is Rheological Additive | CP Series Rheological Additive is mainly use for Oil drilling fields, grease lubricant ,Inks, Paints and coatings.

Rheological Additives to effect suspension and rheology in oil drilling fluids. It provides driller with a means to transport cuttings and supend to the surface.

Rheological Additives has a very important performance to lubricant the drilling bit.

In fracturing fluids, Rheological Additive has a gelling ability is used to seal rock fractures in the bore hole.

What is organoclay? The following information is also worthy of your reference.

Organoclay bentonite is an important  fine chemical raw material. Due to its hydrophobic and lipophilic characteristics.

it forms a thixotropic dao gel in organic solvents, which has the characteristics of anti-settling, thickening, anti-sagging, and thixotropy.

Therefore, the product is widely used in chemical industries such as paint, ink, high temperature grease, sealant, petroleum drilling, precision casting, quick-drying putty, adhesive, plastic, asphalt, petroleum additives, etc.,

As an anti-precipitation agent and thickening agent , Tackifier and suspending agent, etc.

In high-speed printing inks, the consistency, viscosity and permeability of the ink can be adjusted as needed.

In the drilling process, Rheological Additive can be used as a latex stabilizer. In high-temperature grease, organic bentonite is especially used. Prepare high temperature grease suitable for high temperature and long-term continuous operation.

What Is Rheological Additive

Rheological additive is an inorganic mineral or organic ammonium compound. It uses bentonite as a raw material. It uses the layered structure of montmorillonite in bentonite and its ability to swell and disperse in water or organic solvents into colloidal clay particles.

Through ion exchange Technology is made by inserting organic covering agent. Organoclay rheological additive can form a gel in various organic solvents, oils, and liquid resins. Organoclay rheological additive has good thickening, thixotropy, suspension stability, high temperature stability, lubricity, film formation, water resistance and chemical stability.  Has important application value in the coating industry. Organoclay rheological additive is also widely used in paint and ink, aviation, metallurgy, chemical fiber, petroleum and other industries.

What Is Rheological Additive?Three methods of organoclay bentonite

Organoclay rheological additive can be prepared by wet method, pre-gel method and dry method.  Among the three methods, the dry method has simple operation and high production efficiency.

The prepared organoclay bentonite is suitable for use as a thickener for oil-based drilling fluids, but this method has more dust and greater environmental pollution.

Whether the particle size in the suspension meets the requirements in the key step of the wet method, and whether the impurities in the bentonite.

Especially quartz are removed, directly affect the performance of the organoclay bentonite.

It is worth noting that the raw material used to prepare organic bentonite must be sodium-based bentonite, and calcium-based bentonite cannot be used.

Because the hydrated ion radius of Na is larger than that of Ca, which will increase the bentonite with interlayer spacing and benefit ion exchange of organic cations.

Organo bentonite can be divided into functions and components:

  1. High viscosity organo bentonite
  2. Easy to disperse organo bentonite
  3. Self-activated organo bentonite
  4. High purity organo bentonite

According to the balance of hydrophilicity and lipophilicity of intercalation surfactants, various types of organoclays bentonite are divided into three types:Low polarity organoclays, medium polarity organoclays and high polarity organoclays.

High-viscosity organoclays bentonite:

In a suitable solvent, high-speed shear dispersion is required, and a dispersant such as a fermentation activator is added to form a high-viscosity gel.

The gel properties of organoclays bentonite mainly refer to the dispersibility, gel strength, thixotropy and thermal stability of organoclays bentonite in organic solvents.

Similar to water-based gels, when the organoclays bentonite is wetted by a large amount of organic solvents, the low molecular weight polar dispersant penetrates into the interlayers and embeds the organic cation spaces between the layers along the silicon-oxygen tetrahedral layer.

And at the same time lifts the long organic cations. High, the layer spacing increases, forming internal expansion, and the unit cell volume increases.

Under the solvation of the solvent, the layered aggregates are separated into smaller flakes, which is the dispersion process.

Dispersed organoclay powder (montmorillonite) flakes have a certain amount of positive charge on the end.

Part of the organic cations in the layer are transferred to the solvent with the help of a small amount of water molecules and polar dispersant.

So that the layer has a certain level the amount of negative charge.Solvated Chinese organoclay.

Easy to disperse organic bentonite ,Such as our CP series organoclay CP-10 , CP-APA CP-MP

: it does not need high-speed shear dispersion in the applicable solvent, but needs to add a small amount of dispersant such as alcohol activator to form a thixotropic colloid.

Self-activating rheological additive : It is organic bentonite that can form a uniform dispersion without high-speed shear dispersion and the addition of dispersants such as alcohol activators in the applicable solvent.

Products name: organoclay chemistry | Chinese Organoclay

Relative density: 1.7~1.8 g/cm3
Appearance: white or off-white powder
Odor: tasteless
Solubility: Easily soluble in hydrocarbon solvents, adding a small amount of polar solvents such as methanol, ethanol, acetone, etc.

It can bridge the quaternary ammonium hydrocarbon chains between the montmorillonite layers through hydrogen bonds to obtain effective solvation.

thereby making the layer It swells, disperses, and forms a thixotropic gel with a card layer house structure.

To prevent the precipitation of inorganic fillers.

Toxicity: non-toxic

Application: Used as a thickener, thixotropic agent and stabilizer for solvent-based adhesives and sealants.

The reference dosage is 5-10 parts. Add organic bentonite directly, stir for 1h and add a small amount (2%~3%) of polar solvent (methanol or ethanol, etc.).

Organobentonite belongs to modified bentonite; commonly used modified methods include quaternary ammonium salt intercalation modification and coupling agent modification.

The purpose of the above-mentioned modification process dao is to increase the hydrophobicity. that is to increase the lipophilicity.

Therefore, the lipophilicity is good, or the hydrophobicity is good. The easiest way is to pour the modified organic bentonite into a beaker,

Then add deionized water (or distilled water) to see how much it sinks to the bottom; the less it sinks, the better!

Rheological additive (organic montmorillonite) unit cell level and end face due to different electrical properties.T thus forming numerous unit cell end face and layer association.

Due to the recovery of broken bonds, the end face and end face will also be associated  , and finally form a pseudoplastic body with a certain viscosity.

What we call Chinese organoclay bentonite gel. The gel properties of organic bentonite are not only related to the structure of bentonite and surfactant used in production, but also mainly related to the solvent system during use.
