Organophilic clay viscosifier as a drilling fluids chemicals in all–oil systems or in other fluids where no water is included in the formulation, or where water is unwanted, a chemical activator such as methanol or propylene carbonate should be added. Mixing 5% water, by weight, into the activator can enhance its efficiency.

CP-992 is an easy dispersing, self activating organoclay bentonite that exhibits high performance efficiency in diesel, low aromatic mineral oil, modified vegetable oil and synthetic base fluid formulation.Organophilic Clay CP-992  is a wet process improved viscosifier and gelling agent. It is an easy dispersing, rapid yielding organoclay. It is stable and has good suspension and thixotropic features.

4, Using

CP-180B disperses under high shear and requires a polar activator (30%~40%) for best efficiency. Heat is not required to obtain good dispersion. Addition levels are typically in 0.2%~2.0%. Polar activator (95% Ethanol or 95% Methanol) is needed. Normally addition level of polar activator is recommended to be 30%~40% of CP-180B in weight.

Organoclay Rheological Additive | Oil thickening additive CP-250A is a kind of purified and modified organoclay , designed especially for using in Grease based on synthetic oils such as vegetable oil, polyester oil.

2, Advantages

3,  Application

Oil thickening additive CP-250A is used in the following applications:

  • Grease Lubricant (the base oil is synthetic oil such as middle-high viscosity petroleum, mineral oil, diester oil, polyester oil, vegetable oil etc.)
  • Wood coating

4,  Using

When it is used in Grease Lubricant, polar activator is needed. Polar activator is acetone/water(95/5). The dosage of activator is 20%-30% of the weight of CP-250A. And also high shear can promote the dispersing of CP-250A.

Adding procedure as follows:

  • If condition permits, heat the base oil to 60~70℃
  • Add CP-250A while stirring, addition level is 7%-10% of the total formulation. Stir 5~10minutes
  • Add polar activator, addition level is 2%-3% of the total formulation. Then add other additives, stir 25~30minutes.
  • Use pump to help it pass colloid grinding and homogenizer.
  • Deair, filtrate, pack.

5, Note:

With High-speed dispersant of grinding machine, and properly prolong the dispersing time, better gelatin performance can be reached.

The Lubricanting grease which uses organoclay as thickener will own high dropping point, thus can be used under high temperature and presents good impermeability and water resistance.

Rheology Modifier organoclay CP-138Y is an treated oil based bentonite clay. 4, Using

It can be added directly in powder under high shear condition. Addition level is commonly 0.1%~1.0% of total formulation by weight. Polar activator is required to achieve better performance. The addition procedure is suggested as below.

  • Add resin in solvent.
  • Add CP-138Y under slow agitation.
  • Disperse under high speed for 10-15 minutes.
  • Add polar activator.
  • Disperse under high speed for 10-15 minutes.
  • Add wetting agent and other additive.
  • Grinding and next procedure.

If to make pre-gel, better efficiency can be achieved. Addition level in pre-gel is 5%-8% of total pre-gel in weight. Pre-gel procedure is as below.

  • Add solvent or solvent mixture.
  • Add CP-138Y under slow agitation.
  • Disperse under high speed for 5-10 minutes.
  • Add polar activator.
  • Disperse under high speed for 5-10 minutes.

Polar activator is suggested to be ethanol/water (95/5), methanol/water (95/5) or acetone. Dosage of polar activator is as below.
