Organobentonite CP-138Y has high purity, low silica content.  Rheological additive is an white organic bentonite clay . Modified organpclay bentonite additive has high thickenning property and colloid stability.

We suggest that when you use organic bentonite, you first make it into domain gel, that is, organic bentonite gel, and then dilute it with organic bentonite domain gel to produce a product of appropriate concentration.

In terms of technology, organic bentonite is mainly prepared by using volume, that is, organic solvent system, then bentonite, and then polar activator to mix them. If possible, add some polar activator, Continue to mix them for about 10 minutes.

This highly efficient Rheology modifier is designed for paints coatings and oil drilling mud.Organophilic clay shows high efficiency of forming gel, easily disperse and stable viscosity. Rheological additive can be used well without polar activating agent.

The gel is very transparent and of light color .

4, Using | Organo modified clay rheological additive

Organo modified clay rheological additive can be added directly in powder under high shear condition. Addition level is commonly 0.1%~1.0% of total formulation by weight. Polar activator is required to achieve better performance. The addition procedure is suggested as below.

  • Add resin in solvent.
  • Add CP-138Y under slow agitation.
  • Disperse under high speed for 10-15 minutes.
  • Add polar activator.
  • Disperse under high speed for 10-15 minutes.
  • Add wetting agent and other additive.
  • Grinding and next procedure.

If to make pre-gel, better efficiency can be achieved. Addition level in pre-gel is 5%-8% of total pre-gel in weight. Pre-gel procedure is as below.

  • Add solvent or solvent mixture.
  • Add CP-138Y under slow agitation.
  • Disperse under high speed for 5-10 minutes.
  • Add polar activator.
  • Disperse under high speed for 5-10 minutes.

Polar activator is suggested to be ethanol/water (95/5), methanol/water (95/5) or acetone. Dosage of polar activator is as below.

Organo clay CP-34 disperses under high shear and requires a polar activator for best performance. Heat is not required to achieve good dispersal. Addition levels are typically 0.2% to 2.0%. A polar activator (95% ethanol or 95% methanol) is required. Typically, the polar activator addition level is 40% to 50% of CP-34 by weight. If the system contains xylene, the polar activator addition level is approximately 30% to 40% of the CP-34 weight.

Pre-gel is done as shown below procedure.

Solvent charge on the mill

Slowly add SR-34 (6-10% by weight of the total amount of Pregel), grind while stirring.

Mix on high speed for 5 minutes.

Add polar activator.

Mix on high speed for 5 minutes.
